How to Play Mahjong Journey: Tile Matching Puzzle

You clear ornate tile layouts one satisfying pair at a time, moving through richly detailed landmarks — the Taj Mahal, Mount Fuji, the Forbidden City — as a young girl and her cat search the world for her lost parents. If you enjoy a puzzle that gives you a real story to follow alongside the challenge, this journey was built for you.

Choose a level and study the layout before you tap a single tile
Select two identical free tiles to remove them from the board
Work from the top of the stack downward to open up buried tiles
Use a Shuffle when the board locks up and no moves remain
Trigger a Firecracker to clear several stuck pairs at once and race for gold stars

Controls

Tap any two matching tiles that are not covered or blocked on both sides to pair and remove them. All interaction is single-tap — no dragging or complex gestures needed.

Scoring

Stars are awarded at the end of each level based on how quickly you clear the board — finish faster to earn all three and log it as a gold-star completion.

When does a round end?

A round ends when you remove every tile from the layout, or when no legal pairs remain and you have no power-ups left to turn the board around.

Tips & Tricks

Scan the full board before your first move — removing a tile near the top can unlock three or four options lower down
Save the Firecracker for moments when two or three pairs are buried under a single blocking tile, not just whenever it is available
Prioritise tiles that appear four or more times on the board; clearing duplicates early keeps your options open longer
Play offline on a slow connection — the game runs without internet, so you never lose progress mid-level to a dropped signal
